Hydraulic Fracturing - Video Installations

Hydraulic Fracturing is a craze that is sweeping the nation. Before the second Bush administration, most of our natural gas and all of its byproducts came from outside of our country, mostly the Middle East and Russia. Now as a country, we have become more self-sustained, but at what cost? Fracking is highly toxic to our environment as it entails polluting billions of gallons of fresh water with chemicals that can never be separated from the water, and pumping that mixture into the earth to cause small fractures allowing the gas to flow to the surface. Not only does this create small amounts of seismic activity near the drilling site, but it also allows gas to seep into the local water supply.

For this project, I opened up the code for the images and videos that I used and replaced some of it with facts about fracking and a few related articles. Creating a video is something that I have not successfully accomplished before and is very alien to me. I found that using this form of art to create a statement piece about fracking has been more successful than I could have imagined. The sound accompanying this video was created by William Siegel, with small suggestions from myself, to enhance the feel of the piece.
